The Powerball prize is back at $3 million — but that’s still enough money to change a life for anyone.
After last week’s massive $80 million prize was won by a syndicate of 55 West Australian women, the Powerball jackpot is back on base with $3 million to grab in this week’s draw.
So far in 2021, there have been 14 Powerball Division One wins that have collected $550 million in prize money.
Seven of these victories were from NSW, four from Queensland, two from Victoria and one from Western Australia.
The Lots’ Matt Hart said any Division One winner from this week’s Powerball draw will receive his multimillion-dollar prize at Christmas time.
“There is a provisional two-week period for Division One wins, so any Powerball Division One winner on Thursday night will be paid their prize on Christmas Eve,” he said.
“Imagine how happy and bright your Christmas and New Year’s plans could be if you scored a huge Powerball victory.
“There’s no doubt you could play by your own rules in 2021 if you were a newly minted Powerball multi-millionaire.”
Meanwhile, a group of 55 women from a Perth gym claimed the $80 million Powerball jackpot last week.
Women of the Curves, a women’s-only gym in Belden, each put in $5 for their share of the winning tickets sold from Beaumaris News and Post in Ocean Reef.
Winner, who put together the unofficial syndicate, said he hadn’t organized a syndicate like this for years, but with $80 million on offer, decided to take a chance.
“A lot of women in the gym are real Australian batsmen and come here as an outlet,” said Winner.
“We are a real community and it is life changing for each and every one of us.
“The future is looking very bright.”
In her 50s, Winner said she was at Christmas dinner with some members of the syndicate when she found out.
“One of our husbands called to tell us we had won, and the moment we found out, it was a pandemic,” she said.
“I called the waiter and asked him for the best bottle of champagne.
“Christmas this year is going to be bigger, brighter and better than ever – it will be a very special time for all of us.”
