Australia Post: Last day to buy online in time for Christmas

The last day when you can buy online and still get your parcel in time for Christmas – and Australia Post says you should hurry.

Australians wanting to order their gifts online and receive them in time for Christmas Day must place their order today.

The postal company has reminded customers that Monday is their last chance to send a gift by standard parcel post.

Those who need a little more time can use the Express Post service, but there is no need to send orders after December 20 for most parts of the country.

For Northern Territory and Western Australia, the cut-off date is five days earlier.

Australia Post is expecting a record number of deliveries this year, with more than 52 million parcels shipped last December.

Some of the busiest delivery days can reach more than three million parcels in 24 hours, said Rod Barnes, executive general manager of the business.

“We’re getting behind the biggest online shopping month ever in November, so we know a lot of people did their Christmas shopping early during those big cyber sales,” he said.

“As a result we are delivering over 2.3 million parcels each week.

“But for those who haven’t had a chance to finalize their gifts yet, we’re doing everything we can to give them the best chance to come, including on weekends and early in the evening, before Christmas.” Delivered in the evening.

“If people miss the deadline senders… (deliveries) may not come until after Christmas.”

More than 380 post offices across the country have extended business hours to give customers the best chance to send their gifts on time.

Before sending their parcels, customers should check its origin and destination are within the Express Post network.
