Hyundai’s luxury offshoot Genesis has launched its new G70 Shooting Brake.
A shooting brake is a wagon with a massive coupe-like sloping roof, intended for buyers wanting the practicality of an SUV with the superior driving experience of a sedan.
The G70 offers a value-packed alternative to German luxury rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Jun Heo, Head of Genesis Australia, says: “The G70 Shooting Brake brings new charm to the G70 model line with its classic coupe-wagon styling, great performance and a range of safety and convenience technology.”
Available in a higher-spec variant, the G70 Shooting Brake costs $79,000 (before on-road costs). It is more expensive than the original Germans, but comes with more standard equipment.
The Genesis also enhances the value by including free servicing for the first five years/50,000 kms and a five year/unlimited kms warranty.
Mercedes-Benz is the only major German luxury manufacturer to offer a five-year warranty.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 179kW and 353Nm. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic driving the rear wheels.

Exclusively Nappa leather upholstery inside the G70 is appointed with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display coupled with a 10.25 central infotainment screen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Buyers can also opt for the Sports Pack as a no cost option that comes with items like sports pedals and suede interior trim.
Genesis has focused on safety with a comprehensive list of standard driver aids.
The G70 will brake automatically if a potential collision with a car, cyclist or pedestrian is detected. It will alert you if there is an object in your blind spot and sound an alarm and auto brake if it detects a car coming in the opposite direction to you.
Other items include Lane Keep Assist, a bird’s eye view camera and Safe Exit Alert that will let you know if a car is approaching as soon as you open your door.
